Tracy Stefanucci named 2009 BCAMP Volunteer of the Year

VANCOUVER, BC — The BC Association of Magazine Publishers (BCAMP) has named Tracy Stefanucci, publisher and editor-in-chief of OCW Magazine, the 2009 BCAMP Volunteer of the Year. The award recognizes volunteer achievement by those who provide inspiration for bright up-and-comers and better the magazine industry through their involvement.

Since co-founding OCW Magazine (onecoolword.com), a Vancouver-based arts and literary magazine, in 2006, Stefanucci has nurtured the talents of over 40 industry professionals, many of whom have gone on to work at other magazines, and arts and publishing organizations. Her work at the not-for-profit, volunteer-run magazine has also provided a strong platform for the careers of up-and-coming writers, artists and musicians.

Jake Tobin Garrett, writer and former managing editor at OCW Magazine, says of Stefanucci, “She has created a magazine that is a welcoming environment for everyone, staff and contributors, and that allows for those in the community to flex their creative muscles in a collaborative environment. […] Even when the going got toughand with a not-for-profit magazine, the going did get toughTracy maintained an infectiously positive attitude and was always a wellspring of new ideas.”

Mary Schendlinger, senior editor of Geist magazine, says, “Tracy Stefanucci is the wave of the future for magazine publishing. For her it is second nature to work collaboratively, share knowledge and insight, and inspire new (and old) publishers to love what they do.”
Stefanucci will be honoured alongside other regional award recipients at Magazines Canada’s Cross-Canada Volunteer Appreciation Reception on June 3, held during MagNet: Canada’s Magazine Conference. She will also be recognized at the BCAMP Annual General Meeting on June 12.
