Ever the cockeyed optimist, D. B. Scott, the Canadian Magazines blogger, industry consultant and general magazine enthusiast, presents his hopeful view of the current challenges and future opportunities for magazine publishing, large and small, in this country.
D. B. SCOTT, the president of Impresa Communications Limited, has built a solid reputation as a blogger, consultant, writer, columnist, teacher, market researcher, publisher and editor (not necessarily in that order). His concentration, passion and specialty is the magazine industry. He has been called on for advice in such critical areas as strategic planning, content development, marketing, launches and relaunches, redesigns, audience surveys and focus groups, meeting facilitation, and review and development of production and publishing systems.
He has helped many of Canada’s largest and smallest publishers, including Maclean’s, The Walrus, TV Times, Fashion, Border Crossings, Musicworks, The Capilano Review, Ornamentum, the Literary Review of Canada, The New Quarterly, Exchange, This Magazine, the Canadian Theatre Review, C international contemporary art, Quill & Quire, University Affairs/affaires universitaires, Musicworks, Wood/le bois, The Beaver, the Calgary Herald and the Ottawa Citizen.
Scott was a founding member of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors (CSME).
