Scrambling can be heard from magazine offices all over B.C. as packages are pulled together for National Magazine Awards in time for the January 13 deadline.
Since 1977, the National Magazine Awards Foundation has been honouring excellence in Canadian magazine publishing with their annual awards. This year’s competition introduces several new categories, reflecting change and growth in the industry.
Awards celebrating emerging talent have been introduced, with $500 prizes for both the Best New Magazine Writer and Best New Visual Creator.
Content from digital magazines and magazine websites are now eligible for certain integrated and visual categories as an expansion of their entry into written categories last year.
Changes in the visual awards category have taken place: Fashion and Beauty are now two distinct awards, while definitions for Illustration, Spot Illustration, Home & Gardens, and Photojournalism & Photo Essay have been updated. Participants will also notice adjustments to some of the written categories, as the One of a Kind and Politics & Public Interest categories have experienced some small changes.
As always, following packaging instructions for entries is vital to ensure qualification, but the NMAF has provided handy how-to videos for your convenience. Check them out and submit your digital application online at magazine-awards.com
