June has been quite a month of celebration for several of BCAMP's member publications, with both the National Magazine Awards and Western Magazine Awards held in the past few weeks.
Amongst the winners of the 32nd annual National Magazine Awards held on Friday, June 5th at Toronto's Carlu venue were individuals from BCAMP member publications Western Living and Vancouver Magazine:
Silver Award: Words and Pictures
Gary Ross, Wendell Phillips, Randall Watson
A World Apart, Vancouver Magazine
Silver Award: Homes and Gardens Martin Tessler
A Measured Dose, Western Living
At the 27th Western Magazine Awards held at the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbour Side June 19th, Vancouver Magazine snatched 12 awards, including BC/Yukon Magazine of the Year and Western Canada Magazine of the Year. Among the magazine's many nominations, awards were given for:
Best Business Article: Chris Cannon - The Guru
Best Profile Article: Bruce Grierson - Father Abraham
Best Public Issues Article: Charles Montgomery - Citizen Hern
Best Service Article: The Editors - 19th Annual Restaurant Awards
Best Student Writing: Jonathan Graham - A House Divided
Best Photograph (People and Portraiture): Gregory Crow, GeNext (boy with guitar)
Best Art Direction Article: Randall Watson - Sad City
Best Art Direction Cover: Randall Watson - Eat This: 101 Great Tastes
In addition, Best Illustration or Illustration Feature was awarded to Roxanna Bikadoroff for her piece Brutish Colonia in Vancouver Review. Geist Magazine, BC Business, Western Living Magazine, Vancouver Review, Vancouver Magazine, and BCAMP's newest member Goats Across Canada also earned several notable nominations.
